The Singaporean vessel Tian Lu set sail from the Jiangyin Sunan International Container Terminal in Jiangyin, a county-level city in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on March 16.
This marked the inaugural direct voyage to Antwerp, Belgium, establishing a vital maritime link between the Yangtze River Delta and the European market.
Carrying 365 special containers, the Tian Lu is directly bound for Antwerp Port, a key European trade hub. This new route significantly reduces transportation time and cuts port operation costs by 20 to 30 percent for partner companies. It also enhances the international competitiveness of Jiangyin Port while deepening regional openness.
The vessel is transporting over 2,300 metric tons of high-value goods, including high-end equipment and precision instruments, primarily serving the China-Europe special cargo trade. This direct route facilitates market access for made-in-China products to Europe and provides a streamlined pathway for European goods entering China, supporting smooth two-way trade between the two regions.
Future routes will operate regularly, offering efficient logistical support for foreign trade in sectors such as machinery, automobiles, and electronics. This expansion is designed to further extend the port's operational reach into Europe and Africa, creating a convenient maritime channel for customers, according to a representative from Jiangyin Sunan International Container Terminal.
In addition to developing new foreign trade routes, Sunan terminal is enhancing operational efficiency through equipment innovation and technology optimization. The terminal now employs eco-friendly equipment, such as fully electric rail cranes and stackers, fostering a zero-emission, low-noise working environment and ensuring smoother, more efficient operations.
