Wuxi has established a formal sister-city relationship with Nizhny Novgorod, Russia's fifth-largest city, during the latter's 805th-anniversary City Day celebrations.
The agreement marks a strategic addition to Wuxi's international city-partnership network. Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Yury Shalabaev expressed expectations for deepened practical cooperation in trade, culture, education and youth exchanges between the two cities.
Beyond the sister-city signing, a Wuxi delegation conducted a series of engagement meetings across Moscow, St Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, bringing together government officials, business associations and cultural organizations.
On the economic front, the delegation held talks with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, the St Petersburg Union of Entrepreneurs and key industry associations. Discussions centered on expanding collaboration channels in biopharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence and precision manufacturing. Russian partners see strong complementarities with Wuxi's industrial strengths in these sectors.
In the cultural sphere, Wuxi engaged with the National Center for Public Diplomacy of the SCO Countries in Russia and the St Petersburg State Academic Chamber Orchestra, reaching a consensus to co-host artistic performances and sporting events.
Wuxi authorities say they will continue to pursue regular exchanges with Russian partners in trade, education and people-to-people interactions, with a view to unlocking further cooperation potential across multiple sectors.
