Consul General of the United States in Shanghai Christian Marchant paid an official visit to Wuxi on Sept 4, meeting with Mayor Jiang Feng to discuss deepening mutual trust and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Mayor Jiang welcomed the delegation and highlighted the ongoing economic and social development of Wuxi, as well as the city's history of friendly exchanges with the US. He said that Wuxi is actively deepening its cooperation with American partners and expressed hope for enhanced mutual understanding and bilateral collaboration that would deliver mutual benefits.
Jiang also emphasized the importance of people-to-people exchanges, calling for greater practical cooperation in areas such as culture, sports, healthcare, education, and music. He said such efforts would help foster continued mutual understanding and friendship, adding resilience and vitality to the bilateral relationship.
Marchant expressed appreciation for the long-standing support that Wuxi has extended to US-invested enterprises in the city. He noted that Wuxi's solid industrial foundation, rich cultural environment, and high-quality urban development have made a strong impression, as evidenced by the growth of numerous American businesses operating there.
Looking ahead, he said he looks forward to building on the existing cooperation to explore further potential in trade, investment, culture, and sports, while also facilitating regular exchanges at the grassroots level. He added that such efforts would contribute to the stability of US-China relations at the local level.
