A driverless logistics concept vehicle with core technology from Wuxi made its world premiere at IAA Transportation 2026 in Germany on Sept 14, performing a full-function live demonstration.
Named Box-on-Wheels, the vehicle was unveiled by Stellantis Pro One, the commercial vehicle unit of global automaker Stellantis. With no steering wheel, cabin or rearview mirrors, it is designed for autonomous last-mile urban delivery.
The debut is the latest outcome of Stellantis' cooperation with Wuxi and its third project in the city, following its micromobility and automotive circular economy projects. In Wuxi, Stellantis has built an ecosystem linking those two sectors, covering research, development, manufacturing, recycling and export. UQI Technology, a Wuxi-based smart logistics company, provides the intelligent component of that ecosystem.
UQI was established in Wuxi in 2020 as a joint venture between UBTech and Miracle Automation. For Box-on-Wheels, UQI provided core technical support, including vehicle development, autonomous driving systems and AI perception algorithms. Its technology helps the vehicle see, decide and avoid obstacles by integrating multi-source sensors and road environment information.
Stellantis Pro One is responsible for deployment and market expansion. It will adapt the solution for Europe and other international markets and build support systems including services, connectivity, fleet integration and business solutions.
Three days before the show, on Sept 11, the two sides announced plans for strategic cooperation on next-generation autonomous last-mile delivery. The Hannover debut is the first step from plan to real vehicle.
For Wuxi, the project is a step toward taking local technology and intelligent manufacturing global. Wuxi has developed a driverless logistics vehicle technology system covering vehicle development, environmental perception, positioning, path planning, decision control and task scheduling, supported by local companies such as UBTech and Miracle Automation.
Stellantis' commercial vehicle network, combined with UQI's tested technology, represents a new model of "Wuxi intelligent manufacturing plus global channels".
Initial cooperation will focus on Europe, with validation activities to assess performance, customer value and scalability. The two sides will later evaluate expansion to other international markets.
