WuXi Biologics signed an agreement with Wuxi municipal government on Sept 16 to establish a commercial high-end manufacturing platform in the city, a move expected to strengthen the local biopharmaceutical sector.
Mayor Jiang Feng met with WuXi Biologics CEO Chen Zhisheng and his delegation, and witnessed the signing with them.
Jiang thanked the company for its support for Wuxi’s development. He said Wuxi is working to upgrade its industrial base and develop biomedicine into a stronger pillar industry through innovation-driven growth. He hoped the two sides would expand practical cooperation and deliver greater mutual benefits.
Jiang also encouraged WuXi Biologics to accelerate construction and production of the new project, direct more resources to its Wuxi base, and bring more high-value drug manufacturing, research, and development platform projects to the city. Wuxi will continue to improve services and support for businesses, he added.
Chen said Wuxi has a strong manufacturing foundation and a vibrant innovation environment, creating ample room for cooperation. The company will work to begin construction as soon as possible, contribute more to Wuxi's biopharmaceutical industry, and advance cooperation in broader and deeper areas.
The project will include new production lines for novel biologics and supporting process development laboratories. Its product pipeline will cover monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, Fc fusion proteins and other advanced biologics. Once operational, it will significantly boost Wuxi's commercial manufacturing capacity for biologics and add momentum to the sector's growth.
WuXi Biologics and Wuxi have deepened exchanges and cooperation since this year, with substantial progress. The latest signing marks another step forward in their partnership.
