Wuxi Shanshan Outlet opened for a trial run on Sept 16, attracting large crowds. Its parking lot filled early, dining areas were packed, and queues formed at checkouts as shoppers browsed apparel and tried on gear.

Billed as East China's largest all-weather outlet mall, the project spans about 130,000 square meters and serves a catchment area of roughly 13 million people. It gives Wuxi a new retail destination and fills a gap in high-end experiential commercial space in the city's western area.

The outlet is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Wuxi and Changzhou's Wujin district, placing it within a half-hour cross-city circle. It has nearly 4,000 parking spaces. Brands include Adidas direct-operated stores; outdoor names such as Kailas, Montane, Montbell and The North Face; and children's and sports brands including FILA Kids and Balabala.

The fully indoor, street-style layout uses natural light and features three atriums, including a roughly 2,000-sq-m Jiangnan-themed central space. Dining options include Bunker Market, PODO in PODO and Lamborghini Coffee. Other features include a third-floor garden terrace, a children's playground, a 1,000-sq-m lawn, a pet-friendly area and a cycling station.

The outlet is scheduled to officially open on Sept 24. Promotions and events are expected to include Wuxi's first commercial music fireworks show, a Coca-Cola polar bear-themed pop-up and a dance performance. The venue aims to offer a one-stop, half-day escape for shopping, dining, leisure and family outings.
