A music carnival featuring more than 20 performances is anticipated to run from Sept 25 to Oct 6 at MLAND, a music-themed cultural and commercial hub in Wuxi, offering rock, folk, classical and pop shows across indoor and outdoor venues during the holiday period.
The event, announced on Sept 19, marks the 40th anniversary of Chinese rock. In 1986, Cui Jian performed Nothing to My Name at the Beijing Workers' Gymnasium, widely seen as the public debut of Chinese rock.
Four rock concerts are scheduled to be held at Wuxi Symphony Hall and MAO Livehouse. Cui Jian will perform on Sept 30, followed by Chen Hui, lead singer of Face Band, on Oct 1. A metal concert and a classic folk concert are scheduled for Oct 3 and Oct 4. Ding Wu and tenor Wang Kang are also among the featured artists.
Beyond rock, the carnival is poised to present a range of music experiences. The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra is set to open its 2026/27 season with Wuxi Suite on Sept 26, while Wang Kang will give a solo concert on Oct 1. Open-air stages are expected to host classical-modern fusion and autumn-themed concerts. The Moonlight Stage, which has already attracted more than 20,000 attendees across 12 shows, will feature a Mayday fan event, guitar performances and other themed shows.
Local businesses are offering coupons, prizes and check-in promotions during the carnival. Since opening on May 30, the complex has introduced 22 shops, including MAO Livehouse and a vinyl record store.
