Wuxi and Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, are looking to deepen cooperation in manufacturing, scientific research, education and cultural exchange following the establishment of their sister-city relationship in August.

Cai Jianfeng, acting mayor of Wuxi, met with a delegation from Nizhny Novgorod led by Mayor Yuri Shalabayev on Oct 28 to discuss opportunities for closer collaboration.

Cai welcomed the delegation and highlighted Wuxi's economic and social development. He said the two cities had built a solid foundation for cooperation in research, trade and culture over the years.

He called for stronger business ties, particularly in machinery forging and electric two-wheelers, as well as closer collaboration between research institutions. He also highlighted opportunities to expand people-to-people exchanges through music, arts, sports and youth programs.

Shalabayev said that closer cooperation between the two cities would help strengthen ties between China and Russia through local partnerships. He expressed hope for expanded mutually beneficial partnerships in business, research and education, with sporting events and cultural activities providing further opportunities for residents to connect.

Nizhny Novgorod is a major industrial center in Russia and the birthplace of renowned writer Maxim Gorky. Wuxi and Nizhny Novgorod began exchanges in 2014 and have since developed cooperation in trade, research and culture.

In August, the two cities signed a sister-city agreement, establishing a new framework for broader and deeper collaboration.
