Wuxi, a city in East China's Jiangsu province, has a deep connection with music, boasting a long history of musical culture. Hungarian director Stampf Ádám József, with a strong musical background, has unique insights into this topic. When he discovered that Chinese traditional music can blend perfectly with a symphony orchestra during filming, he couldn't help but marvel at its richness and diversity.
The director and producer move back and forth through symphony orchestras, folk music groups, city parks, and grand theaters, exploring every corner of the city where music resides. The ensemble cast of the film includes renowned erhu player Deng Jiandong and master erhu craftsman Bu Guangjun. In the city park, there are also numerous amateur musicians enjoying themselves, some wearing straw hats, some smoking, some exuberant, some leisurely, collectively painting a picture of a city abundant with the spirit of music.
The film concludes with the soul-stirring erhu performance by Deng. As the camera cuts to the Wuxi Grand Theatre, music drifts out, flowing into the hearts of every Wuxi resident, blending into the cultural veins of this city, and becoming the musical DNA deep within them.
